Birth Doula Partnership

Birth & Soul is the Twin Cities premier provider of Uptown doulas! Uptown Doulas is a unique partnership and collaborative approach to birth doula work. When you hire one of us, you get BOTH of us! Ellee and JoLynda attend your consult and prenatal appointments together. This way, you are never having to catch someone up on your specific wishes. You get two heads full of experience and knowledge, a fresh, rested doula at your birth, double the support, care, and encouragement. We doula very similarly, enough so that our clients are who brought this collaboration together. In the earlier times, they would hire one of us and then insist on the other as back up. We decided to listen to your needs and found the best way to support our clients was to doula together!

Postpartum Doula

You have a baby! Now what?

There is a postpartum doula to fit your needs, no matter what they are. We support families in the postpartum period by providing non-judgmental parenting support. We can meet you in your home the day you arrive or anytime in the first 12 weeks. Parents love having an in-home expert to show them the ins and outs of caring for the smallest new person at home and integrating them into your lives.  A postpartum doula can help you with bonding, feeding, and newborn care. Like a birth doula, a postpartum doula nurtures the whole family, so we even do light housekeeping or rock babies while you catch a nap in between feedings or even share a luxurious rest with your partner. We are not there to replace you; we are there to encourage you and help you adjust to your new role. We also help with sibling and pet integration. Our goal is to transition you into being able to do it all with confidence.
Postpartum doulas are also an amazing option for adoptive parents at whatever age baby arrives. We are sensitive to the different ways children join families and are there to help!
Our clients' favorite postpartum service is our in-home newborn care lesson. Instead of dolls and classes, we teach you how to care for YOUR baby, with your equipment, your tub, and your baby.
Postpartum hours begin at $25/hr with special package discounts available.

           Birth Planning Session

Becoming a parent comes with a lot of decisions, unsolicited advice, and Googling. Let us help you ease the information overload with evidence based information, and empower you in the process!

With over 250 births attended in the Minnesota, Birth & Soul knows the ins and outs of the Twin Cities Birth Community. We can help ease the fear of the unknowns, educate you on your options, recommend a provider that fits your values, formulate a Birth Preferences (Birth Plan), and answer questions about your pregnancy and birth.
This is different from a Childbirth Class, in a Birth Planning Session you get one on one time with Childbirth Educator, and Doula’s- Ellee & JoLynda who have been attending births locally for over 5 years.

Placenta Encapsulation

Picture
Placenta Encapsulation: $225/ $200 for birth clients
Tincture: $20
Salve: $30
Your placenta is an incredible organ your body created just for your baby! The initial thought of consuming your placenta may be a bit overwhelming and maybe even disturbing. By encapsulating your placenta, many people report having:
  • Higher energy levels
  • Reduced levels of anxiety/ postpartum mood disorders
  • Replenished iron levels
  • Increase in milk supply
  • Balanced hormones
Placenta capsules can be prepared in two different ways: the Raw Method, where the placenta is cut, dehydrated, and encapsulated or the Traditional Chinese Method (TCM), where it is steamed with organic fresh ginger and lemon, then cut, dehydrated, and encapsulated.
Placenta Add Ons:
Placenta Tinture is a walnut-sized piece of your placenta infused in alcohol. The tincture can be used for general illnesses such as coughs and colds for both you and your baby. It can also be used to ease the transition into menopause, the loss of a loved one, or a life transition.  And since it is good for life, you can store it and use as needed!

Placenta Salve is part of your placenta infused in healing herbs and oils. Salves can be used on cuts, burns, scars, thrush, diaper rashes, sore nipples, and more! They are truly amazing.
Placenta Encapsulation services include:
Pick-up of your placenta soon after birth .
Preparation of your capsules, in the method you choose

Drop-off of your capsules (and Tincture/ Salve) 1-2 days later

                     Lactation Support

We value hands on experience and know that every baby and body is different. So why learn breastfeeding with a doll when you can have a certified Breastfeeding Counselor come into your home and help you with your own baby?

In-home lactation support can be crucial in helping you reach your breastfeeding goals, whatever they may be. At these visits, we assess baby's latch, milk transfer, and teach you positions to keep you comfortable, along with answering any questions you may have about nursing, supply and demand, or what partners can do to help.
We also have a wonderful resource list and can refer you to anything outside our scope or specialties.
